Summary - Episode 201 Bystander Ben
by Jeff Sass

The second season starts off with the usual breakfast scene. The exception is that Ben has decided to make breakfast for Jonathan for once. He is making bologna. And "holy free holy" Ben is in the Metro section of the paper. Jonathan is a little bit amazed at the entire thing. Ben was the only one coming forward except for the other witnesses.

Steven Wright is out in the hall with a cell phone. He has called Laura and told her that he will be late since he keeps getting distracted out in the hall. He then enters and gives the phone to Laura. Steven thinks that Laura is his best friend.

Inside, Katz asks if he has taken any medication. Then they discuss how coffee starts at 9:30am. Any coffee before that time is not counted as a cup for that day. He sleeps in shifts and is considered to be hyper vigilant. Katz then asks him if he has intrusive thoughts. The question is confusing. They move on to depression. It seems that his family from Europe never adjusted to the time change.

Ben has "taken a walk over" to talk with Laura. He asks if Laura has read the paper. She has and is shocked that Ben gave the reporter his name. Ben points out that the criminals cannot read.

Steven is not afraid of heights because he realized that there are other directions out there. He also used to eat his lunch at midnight instead of noon.

Ben calls and wants to change his name to Zeus. Ben doesn't want a nickname like Ben "the over-reactor" Katz, but that is all that Jonathan gives him.

Kevin Meaney is now in the office talking about how 5 kids cannot share one bathroom. His mother would tell him to use the bathroom at school because there are twenty of them there. Kevin states that they live in the 21st century and he should be allowed to go at home and inside. His sister would be in the bathroom for days. She would fly out of the bathroom wrapped in towels yelling, "don't look at me". Kevin also would have to take family trips in the car where his mother was always making fun of people they passed. His father always told him to get out of the car and take the lawn furniture. Kevin noticed that the drinks were still on the furniture and that the barbeque was still piping hot! His father liked to invite his friends over for barbeques because they were all firemen. They would light flames around the house and serve the birds that were fully cooked from the sky.

Ben wants to go talk to the young people. He wants to ride the gravy train to the top and Jonathan better get on with him. Ben has been in the paper and Jonathan has not. Ben wants to start a neighborhood watch.

Laura and Ben are discussing what type of swimmer's body Ben has. Laura thinks that he has a great cannonball. Steven is going insane in the corner and decides to toss a penny at Ben. Ben says "ow" and Steven says that it just fell from the sky and that he wasn't paying attention.

Steven has a rule about never eating on an empty stomach which has thrown him off all of his life.

Katz is telling a joke about marital bliss. Stanley says that if you have to explain the joke then life is not worth living.

Ben has declared that it is over. The media circus cannot even begin. He also admits that he didn't actually see the crime either. Jonathan has to send Ben to his room.

Kevin would be working at his neat desk and his father would tell him that he wasn't reading. He was right too.

Steven is outside "sweating internally". He says that if Laura doesn't look up at him he is going to toss the desk right out the window. Luckily she does and the moment passes without a violent incident.

Inside, Steven is asked whether or not he has a special mission. He didn't think he did but now he wonders. He is then asked whether or not the computer can control his mind. Steven doesn't have an answer to this and is cut off by the sound of the music.

During the credits Jonathan is saying to Ben that sometimes he doesn't recycle the cans. Ben then admits that he flushed a sock down the tiolet and more than likely also took a dump in the hamper.
